Danny "Bomber" Rouse RIP

22/08/2010: Sudden death of Bomber Rouse:

The community of Curragh were shocked and saddened to learn of the unexpected death of Curragh legend Danny "Bomber" Rouse at the weekend. Danny always had close links to the club from when he was a prolific goal scorer in the seventies until his sudden death. When the club won their first trophy in 1974, with a 3-2 away win in Letterkenny against Arcade, Danny had scored 35 goals that year and still holds the overall goals record scored for the club with 142 goals. He later went on to manage the team from 1974 to 1977 and again later when the club played in the Ulster Senior League in the early nineties. The club wish to offer their sincerest sympathy to his wife Eileen and family at this very sad time.

18/08/2010: New Season Opens on Sunday with home game:

Curragh will open their 2010/2011 season when they host Deele Harps (2.00pm) in the first round of the Sportsmans Cup in Killygordon. Manager Sean Carlin has resigned all of his successful panel from the 2009/2010 season and added a few younger players from Simon Cannings under 16 team. The club wish him and the players continued success in the new season.

09062010: Curragh FC saddened by death of Mickey O Brien

The entire community of the Finn Valley were shocked and saddened by the death of well known local man Mickey O Brien. Mickey who became Fas Supervisor in the Killygordon area soon after the scheme commenced in 1996, was an active member of the club for years up until his unexpected death. Curragh collect their 2010 Silverware

29/05/2010: Almost forty players, committee and their partners were present for the annual Donegal Football League's Dinner Dance in the Mount Errigle Hotel in Letterkenny on Friday night last. For Curragh it was another good occasion as they were there to collect the medals and League Trophy. Joint Captains Michael O Brien and Brendan Boyle were presented with the trophy. National Semi-final for Donegal Schoolboys at Curragh

Donegal Schoolboys under 16s will play Killkenny in the semi-final of the National Inter-league competition at the Curragh on Sunday 16th May 2010 Ko 1.00pm.

02/05/2010: Players and club officials extend best wishes to both Seamus Mc Kelvey and Mickey O Brien who are recovering from illness at the moment. The club wish both men, who are long-term servants of the club, a speedy recovery.

Ireland beat Scotland at Curragh

25/4/2010: Following on from the tremendous success of winning the Bob Docherty Cup last week, the Republic of Ireland U15 Girls Schools team celebrated yet another victory with a comprehensive win over Scotland with a hat trick of goals in an invitational friendly yesterday which was hosted by Curragh Athletic FC in Killygordon. 18/4/2010: Letterbarrow Celtic 0 Curragh Athletic FC 4

An emphatic 4 - 0 away victory in Letterbarrow has given Curragh a deserved League title. In a game where Curragh went all out from the start, and had numerous attemps on goal before Gerard Melaugh opened the scoring after sixteen minutes with a thumping shot from outside the eighteen which flew into the net off a post. The second goal arriverd on twenty four minutes when Kevin Rafferty was fouled in the box and Jason Sweeney made it 2-0. It was 3 - 0 on forty one minutes when Sweeney rose high at the back post to head a great goal from a Calvin Bradley cross. Jason completed his hatrick near the end of the game when he rounded the keeper before scoring from a narrow angle. The cup was presented to Captain Michael O Brien by Declan Sherlock (Donegal League) after the game. (see teams senior for more photos)

The kick-off time for the International has been confirmed as 12.00 (Noon), as the Scottish team are flying home straight after the match.

2/4/2010: Stage set for International at Curragh

The Republic of Ireland School International game between Ireland and Scotland (Girls) will be played at the Curragh on Sunday 25th April 2010. The announcement follows a visit to the ground today by Alex Harkin, FAI Schools representative and representatives of the Scottish Schools Football Association. Speaking after the announcement, Frank Kelly, Club Chairman, said that the club were delighted with the news and are in deed very proud to host such an important match.

"I met Alex one evening a few weeks back and he told me then that they were looking at the possibility of having the match played here and would have another look at our set-up when his Scottish counterparts came over for a look around. The recent completion of the seated Spectator Stand has just about finished off the grounds, so this will be another good day for the Club to show what we have achieved over the last few years. Alex has already asked us to host a few Schools finals in the past and we were more than happy to accommodate him. Its great that we have a local representative of the FAI Schools so close and on behalf of everyone here, I would like to thank Alex for helping to get the fixture played here".

28/3/2010: Curragh League Title hopes down to last game of season on the 18th April 2010 in the Bluestacks.

Curragh's chance to capture the League title has come down to the last game of the season. A win in the the away fixture to Letterbarrow Celtic will give Curragh the title. Curragh hope to be at full strength for the game and welcome back their top goal scorer Jason Sweeney after missing the last two games. Michael O Brien is also available after serving a one match suspension as does Kevin Rafferty returning from his honeymoon in Mexico. However, manager Shaun Carlin will take nothing for granted. "Every game recently has been a big game, and if we play like we played in those then we have every chance. The title is there to be won". The team have only lost twice in the league all season and go into this game unbeaten in the league over the last fourteen games.

27/3/2010: Curragh young guns host Trojans at Curragh

While the under 14's were in action in the Cup Final, their younger collagues were playing hosts to Trojans Football Club from Derry. Both clubs played several games including under 8's on the 5-a-side Astro and the under 10's on the grass pitch. The club wish to thank Trojans and their coaches for their visit and look forward to the return visit to the city soon. (see action photos under teams_u10)

27/3/2010: No joy for under 14's

The under 14's finished off their season as beaten finalists in the East Donegal Cup when they went down to League winners Cappry Rovers. Although beaten in the final, team manager Johnny Mc Bride will not be too disappointed given the fact that his squad is mainly all of his last years under 12 League winners. The team also finished third in the league and now look forward to next seasons campaign with basically the same sqaud. Well done to all involved.

A goal in each half from Calvin Bradley and Brendan Boyle moved Curragh within a single victory of lifting the title. Although our last match, away to Letterbarrow Celtic, may not be for a month yet, it is possible that the title could be ours sooner depending on results of other games over the next two weeks. But regardless, its our own hands. This was a slightly tense match, but once Bradley opened the scoring, the result was never in doubt. (see match report teams -senior)

Sundays Donegal Football League match at home to Arranmore has a i.00pm kickoff. Manager Shaun Carlin will be hoping his side can move a step closer to the title with a home win. A win will keep them on course with their remaining match away to Letterbarrow Celtic. If Curragh win these two matches , which they should, they win the League Title and will be promoted.

14/3/2010: Curragh move back top with two matches remaining.

Whitestrand 1 Curragh Athletic 2

Curragh moved back top of the league again thanks to a hard earned but well deserved win along the Atlantic Drive. A fantastic 25 yard free kick by Brendan Boyle three minutes into the second half set up the win and and Mark Doherty added a second with twenty minutes remaining. The game was played in very windy conditions which made it difficult to play football particularly playing with the wind. The first half saw both Duffy and Boyle go close for Curragh, but there were few changes in that half. However, Curragh produced just what Shaun Carlin asked of them in the second half and when Boyle put them ahead, they never looked in danger. Although the home team scored from a penalty in the dying seconds, Curragh produced a fine second half performance and indeed could have won by a bigger margin in the end. Curragh now are at home to Arranmore next weekend and will be looking to extend their lead with another win. Best for Curragh was Burns, Boyle and O Brien at the back, Savlon, Duffy and Bradley in midfield with Doherty and Kelly up front always looking dangerous.

8/3/2010: Curragh draw away with Kerrykeel

For the second week in succession, Curragh drew one goal each. Although this draw sees us move off the top spot, the team are five points ahead of third spot, but more importantly only a point behind the leaders Glenree with a game in hand. A goal after thirty minutes by Mark Doherty put Curragh ahead, but the home team managed to equalise with only ten minutes remaining. It would be fair to say that a draw was a fair result on the day with Kerrykeel needing to beat Curragh to have any change of winning the league. But they are still in with a shout of promotion and Curragh will hope they do us favor next week when the entertain Rathmullen Celtic. This was a hard game and although Curragh dominated around midfield in the first half, Brendan O Meara had to be at his best to save twice early on. The second half saw Kerrykeel come at Curragh more, but although it ended all square, Curragh will be the happier team having avoided defeat.

7/3/2010: Under 14 finish off campaign with win over Ballybofey Utd

Curragh completed their league campaign with a well deserved win over Ballybofey Utd at the Curragh on Saturday evening. This was a good performance by the young Curragh lads wh0 now sit second in the table. They are also through to the semi-final of the Cup.

28/2/2010: Home draw extends Curragh Lead

A goal from Jason Sweeney earned Curragh a deserved share of the points against the in-form Raphoe Town under the Floodlights on Saturday night last. The point was no more than they deserved and in fact but for some excellent saves by the Raphoe Town keeper in the last ten minutes, Curragh could have collected all three points. 24/2/2010: Curragh beat Deele to make semis

The Curragh under 14 reached the semi-final of the Donegal Schoolboys East Area Cup with a very good 2 – 0 victory over Deele Harps. Two first half goals from Meehan and Quinn set up the victory and although the away side tried their best, they were no match for the young Curragh lads.

15/2/2010: Another good win for 14's

Curragh recorded their third win of their league campaign with a fine 5 - 0 home win over Convoy Arsenal. But it took a late late show to seal the victory with four late goals after a half-time 0 - 0 scoreline. Three goals from Ronan Curtis and one each from Dylan Quinn and James Carlin sealed a great second half performance.

7/2/2010: Victory for Curragh in top of table clash

A great away win for Curragh sent them three points clear at the top of the table. Two goals from inform Jason Sweeney and one each from Renato and Kevin Rafferty means that they are now clear leaders. This was a crucial win for Sean Carlins team. However, there was a also a downside to the victory with goalkepper Brendan O Meara recieving a nasty leg injury just at the end of the game.

6/2/2010: Away win for Curragh in East under 14 League.

Curragh continued their good form in the under 14 Donegal Schoolboys East league with a well deserved 6 - 2 away victory over neighbous Castlefin Celtic. James Carlin, Justin Mc Bride and Ronan Curtis (3) were the scorers.

23/1/2010: Donegal Schoolboys League East. Good away win for under 14. Drumkeen Utd 3 Curragh Athletic 5

Curragh started their under 14's campaign with a good away win over Drumkeen Utd. Dillon Quinn opened the scoring with a header after ten minutes and Luke Kelly made it two nil before the break. Two second half goals from Ethan O Donnell and one from Shane Mc Glinchey ensured the victory.

17/1/2010: Curragh 4 Cranford Utd 0

Curragh started 2010 where the finished 2009 with a thumping 4-0 victory over third placed Cranford. Two goals each from Ryan Kelly and Jason Sweeney ensured the victory (full report, see Teams Senior).

Curragh recorded a easy 4 - 1 victory over neighbours Ballybofey Utd in a pre-Christmas challenge played under the floodlights on Friday night. Two goals each from Jason Sweeney and Kevin Rafferty seen them outplay the Twin-Towns oufit to run out comportble winners. The match preceeded the players Christmas party which was held in Brownes Bar at the Cross later in the evening.

9/11/2009: Cup Weekend for Curragh. Next weekend sees Curragh play in the 3rd round of the FAI Junior Cup with a trickey away fixture against Inishowen side Moville Celtic. The match is scheduled for next Sunday with a 1.30pm Kick-off. The following Sunday sees Curragh return to league action with a home fixture against Whitestrand at the Curragh.

23/10/2009: Proud night for Curragh Committee Inter-provincial at Curragh Ground

In the first ever Inter-provincial game to be played here, Leinster defeated Munster 2-0 under floodlights at the Curragh tonight. Two first-half goals were enough to see off an unimpressive Munster side who did come into the game more in the second half. Among the attendance was Sean Mc Cafferty, Youth Fai International manager. Credit to all involved in Curragh and in particular Fas who made great work in getting the Seats and Ground works completed in time for the big match. A special thanks also to the ladies committee. Well done to all involved.

Congratulation to Fidelma Callaghan and Frank Kelly who completed the 15KM Sponsored Walk at Mentycat this morning. Thanks to all who returned filled cards and who contributed financially. 21/9/2009: Away trip to Arranmore for Carlin's men

For the third week running, Curragh will play away from home when the team make the long trip to Arronmore. Team bus leaves from the pitch at 9.30am.

13/9/2009: Good away point in Rathmullen.

Curragh earned a good away point in Rathmullen thanks to a well deserved one all draw. In fact, it would be fair to say that we deserved much more out of the game with all the chances beencreated by Curragh. However, having gone down to 10 men with twenty minutes remaining, we were maybe happy with the draw. The team have no game next week.
